Death from rabies linked to kidney transplant

A man from Maryland who died from rabies infection contracted the virus through a kidney transplant. CDC laboratory scientists said the rabies virus taken from the recipient genetically matched samples from the organ donor. Three other recipients of organs from the same donor are receiving preventive treatment for rabies. This was the second reported case of rabies transmission from an organ donor in the U.S.
