The CTIA's proposal that some broadcast auxiliary service spectrum be repurposed for commercial use is raising important questions about how information is disseminated during emergencies, writes Tammy Parker. "[T]here really is no denying the role broadcast news can play in public safety and security," Parker writes. She adds that the FCC's "rush to free up spectrum" could result in "unintended consequences."
