3 copyright pitfalls for social media users

Social media users need to be aware of intellectual-property issues, panelists said at the South by Southwest conference. Recirculating copyrighted images and photos from Twitter can get users into trouble, as can scraping content covered under the "hot news" doctrine. To stay safe, it's best to either gain explicit permission to use content, or to significantly transform it using your own skills, expertise and creativity, the panelists said.
