Senate bill calls for release this year of final device ID rule

A bill introduced in the Senate would mandate that the FDA release by the end of the year a final rule governing the creation of a unique identifier system to track implantable medical devices. A proposed rule establishing the ID system has stalled in the Office of Management and Budget, where it was submitted in July by the FDA.
