Cable providers welcome potential competition from over-the-top services from Intel or Apple, according to participants at the American Cable Association Summit. "There is no better way to get over-the-top content than by our networks," said Steve Friedman, chief operating officer of Wave Broadband. Massillon Cable President Bob Gessner was skeptical that available bandwidth would support such endeavors and predicted that new entrants in the pay-TV field would find it difficult to unbundle shows from programmers. "It's tough to make that really cheap basic cable package," he said.
