Clients fret about portfolio performance, survey finds

Clients and advises have very different ways of measuring investment success, according to a survey by Russell Investments. More than half of advisers said investment performance is about steering clients toward their long-term goals. Meanwhile, about the same number of clients emphasized factors such as short-term gains or volatility. Advisers should help clients focus on their future goals rather than their portfolios' past performance, one Russell executive says.
