Court: FERC had no authority to intervene in Amaranth case

The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission did not have the jurisdiction to accuse natural gas trader Brian Hunter of market manipulation, a federal appeals court has ruled. "FERC lacks jurisdiction to charge Hunter with manipulation of natural-gas futures contracts," U.S. Circuit Judge David Tatel wrote in the ruling. The Commodity Futures Trading Commission has "exclusive jurisdiction" under the Commodity Exchange Act, Tatel wrote.
