Firms to more than double Texas region's wind power capacity

Several wind power developers have started filing applications to invest a combined amount of at least $3.3 billion in the Texas Panhandle in the next two years, as Cross Texas Transmission and Sharyland Utilities near completion of transmission-line projects that would bring wind power in the region to urban centers. Under agreements filed with the Public Utility Commission of Texas, developers have committed to add 1,644 megawatts of wind power capacity to the region's current capacity of about 1,500 MW.
