Researchers: Cardiac fellow trainings should include radial access

Transradial access training should be offered as a standard part of cardiology fellowship programs, researchers wrote in the American Heart Journal. Cardiology fellows demonstrated competence in learning the radial access approach in addition to the transfemoral approach, researchers found. The radial approach may be more difficult to learn than the transfemoral approach, limiting its widespread use, but advantages include lower risk of bleeding and vascular complications and shorter recovery time, researchers noted.
