Why companies should look beyond CSR rankings

Business leaders shouldn't focus so much of their attention on climbing corporate social responsibility league tables, according to environmental advocates. The rankings go down well with investors but tend to focus on mitigating risks rather than taking positive action, and don't provide a gold standard for corporate sustainability. "Not only are the lists misleading for consumers, they actually bring an overall lack of credibility to the entire field of sustainable business," says CSR specialist Martin Smith.
