1,700 Ford workers agree to retire early

Early-retirement buyouts offered by Ford last fall have been accepted by 1,700 employees, the company said. Ford is expected to replace retiring workers with lower-paid entry-level employees and workers who had been on indefinite layoff. The retiring workers will leave the company by June 1.
