SNA: Federal waiver for protein, grain limits should be permanent

The School Nutrition Association is supporting federal legislation that would lift the cap on grains and proteins in school meals -- established under federal standards. Under the existing standards, SNA President Sandra Ford said her school could serve sandwiches four days out of the school week and was limited in the amount of grilled chicken that could be served on salads. The legislation would make permanent a waiver issued this school year that gave schools more flexibility in implementing grain and protein requirements.
