Insurance bills advance in Florida legislative panels

Florida's Senate Banking and Insurance Committee approved legislation that would allow residential property insurers to increase their rates as much as 30% for individual policies without seeking permission from state regulators. Meanwhile, a state House panel cleared a bill enabling carriers to use examinations under oath during litigation of cases involving personal-injury-protection fraud. Suspects "often miss or never go to these appointments in order to keep the crime a secret," PCI said.
