Influential evangelical pastor supports marriage equality

Rob Bell, an evangelical pastor once hailed by Time magazine as one of the 100 most influential people in the world, this week criticized evangelicals who turn people away from religion with their narrow focus on cultural issues that can't be changed, adding that he embraces the rights of same-sex couples to marry. "I think the ship has sailed and I think the church needs -- I think this is the world we are living in and we need to affirm people wherever they are," Bell said at an Episcopal church in San Francisco.
