Novel surgery aims to alleviate tiger's hip pain

Veterinarian Toby Willis performed a novel surgical procedure on a 13-year-old Siberian tiger with hip dysplasia last week, severing nerves in an effort to alleviate the arthritic pain that accompanies the condition. The tiger, named Tacoma, has had the condition for two years and started showing signs of serious pain about four months ago. Dr. Willis said the procedure is new in the U.S.
