High-oleic oilseeds aim to take out the trans fat

DuPont and Dow Chemical will in 2013 launch modified canola, sunflower and soybean seeds that the companies say produce crops with a higher level of mono­unsaturated oleic acid. The companies are aiming to replace trans fats. Dow bred plants to develop its canola and sunflower seeds, and DuPont used genetic engineering on soybeans.
