Childhood carbohydrate diet may lead to lifelong obesity

Animal research seems to indicate that a carbohydrate diet very early in life may lead to weight gain that cannot be reversed later through dieting. "Our hypothesis has been that the introduction of baby foods too early in life increases carbohydrate intake, thereby boosting insulin secretion and causing metabolic programming that ... predisposes the child to obesity," said Dr. Mulchand Patel. The study was published in the American Journal of Physiology: Endocrinology and Metabolism.
