Cyberespionage taking a toll on U.S. firms, experts testify

Thousands of U.S. companies of all sizes may have been victims of Chinese-backed cyberespionage, according to executives from the security firm Mandiant, who accuse China of seeking a back door to innovation by stealing other companies' intellectual property. In testimony Tuesday before a Senate Armed Services subcommittee, Kevin Mandia and Richard Bejtlich said the target of the attacks is typically data on product development and business strategy -- with small and midsized businesses especially vulnerable since they lack the resources to adequately protect themselves.
