Gartner sees little surge in BlackBerry's market share

Garner threw some cold water on Blackberry's hopes that its new operating system will help the company regain much of its lost global market share. The research firm issued a report this week predicting that BlackBerry's global market share will remain under 5% over the next three years despite the recent introduction of phones running on the BlackBerry 10 platform. "It comes down to how effective BlackBerry's marketing will be, and how much money they can spend to excite the user in favor of a BB10 device," the researchers said. They cited strong competition and a closed platform as major obstacles to the company's ability to woo customers from rival operating systems.
