Judge drops punitive damages claim against Cameron over Gulf spill

U.S. District Judge Carl Barbier dismissed a punitive damages claim against Cameron International over the 2010 Gulf of Mexico oil spill. The company manufactured the blowout preventer that failed to avoid the blast on the Deepwater Horizon rig. Cameron in 2011 paid $250 million to BP to settle spill-related legal claims, but fines and punitive damages weren't covered in the deal.
