FCC starts down the road to converting satellite spectrum

The Federal Communications Commission last week opened the process for allowing satellite spectrum to be used for terrestrial wireless services in the first step of a move that could provide DISH with a license to offer mobile service. The agency also opened a rule-making procedure on a proposal to make the 700 MHz band interoperable so that devices from any number of carriers would work in that frequency range.
