Abbott wins FDA panel vote for mitral valve repair system

A panel of FDA advisers has voted in favor of recommending approval for Abbott Laboratories' MitraClip system, saying its benefits surpassed the risks. The implantable device, available commercially in 30 countries, is used to treat leaky mitral heart valves in patients who are deemed at high risk for open-heart procedures.
