Column: School sports must not trump learning

Sports are winning out over academics in too many U.S. high schools, according to Virginia teacher Mary Tedrow. Discussions on such things as later starts and year-round school are routinely stymied for fear of interfering with sports -- to say nothing of the regular classroom interruptions for pep rallies and student travel to games, she says.
