John Stevens, the civil engineer who helped build the Panama Canal, is a role model for any would-be innovator, Diego Rodriguez writes. Where his peers stayed safely behind a drawing board, Stevens pulled on rubber boots, got out in the field, and started figuring out ways to solve real-world problems. "This guy is a role model for all us trying to make a dent in the universe," Rodriguez writes.
