Interoperability could help hospitals reap about $30B in savings

Hospitals could enhance patient safety and care as well as save more than $30 billion a year through medical device interoperability programs, according to a West Health Institute study. "We see an enormous opportunity to use information technology and device innovation to bring about the much needed transformation in health care delivery," said Dr. Joseph Smith, WHI's chief medical and science officer.
