LaHood: DOT takes steps to strengthen freight network

One of the goals of the U.S. Department of Transportation is to improve the movement of freight. To that end, several projects have been undertaken, including four rounds of TIGER grants that included "more than $650 million to projects that strengthen freight rail infrastructure, reduce freight bottlenecks, and alleviate congestion issues," writes DOT Secretary Ray LaHood. The formation of a National Freight Advisory Committee is also key to a healthy regulatory environment, LaHood notes.
