Covidien expands ventilator footprint with Newport Medical deal

Covidien has agreed to pay about $108 million to acquire Newport Medical in a deal that could be finalized during the second quarter. The buyout will allow Covidien to expand its ventilator device footprint worldwide, specifically in emerging markets, said Robert White, president of the company's respiratory and monitoring systems division.
