TVA exec compares small modular reactors to iPads

Small modular reactors are revolutionizing the role of nuclear energy, as iPads did for mobile devices, said William McCollum, chief operating officer of the Tennessee Valley Authority. Such units are cheaper to build compared with larger facilities, and are also safer, according to SMR proponents. In addition, they could be capable of providing electricity to communities that are isolated or facing water shortages.
