Human testing of bird flu vaccine under way

The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases has begun Phase I tests on a Sanofi Pasteur vaccine, which is made from an inactivated H5N1 avian flu virus isolated last year. The study involves giving the vaccine to 450 healthy adults in Rochester, N.Y., Baltimore and Los Angeles to test its safety.
