Chinese immersion programs see increasing diversity among students

Dual Chinese and English language immersion programs, such as that of the Chinese American International School in San Francisco, are seeing increasing enrollment among non-Asian students. The growth is seen as part of a nationwide trend in response to China's rise as an economic power. "The beauty of immersion programs, whether they're partial or full, is that students spend a considerable amount of time hearing the language and develop it and use it," says ACTFL's Director of Education Marty Abbott.
