Expert: U.S. propane surplus hugely affects U.S. propane market

The surge in U.S. production of natural gas liquids has caused a surplus in the domestic supply of propane, driving market prices down to historic levels. Platts Associate Editor Michael McCafferty explains that this surplus is caused by the increased use of ethane in the petrochemical industry and the unusually warm winter last year that saw a decline in propane usage among commercial and residential customers.
