Pharma trims marketing spending on Maine docs

The amount drugmakers pay to doctors in Maine may be dropping as some companies increase disclosures of such payments in recent years. The amount drugmakers paid to doctors in the state for speaking engagements fell by 60% from 2010 to 2012 based on data from ProPublica. The amount drugmakers paid for research such as clinical studies rose by 40% from 2011 to 2012. PhRMA Senior Assistant General Counsel Marjorie Powell said multiple factors affect how doctors and pharmaceutical companies interact.
