Study: Trade-ins driving cell phone sales, revenues

Despite an industry penetration rate of 79.4%, sales of multimedia phones and smartphones are rising as consumers eagerly lap up handsets that are ever more advanced, especially those that can attach to high-speed Internet services, according to a new study. "Advanced data applications will drive [carrier] service revenues; smartphones that facilitate advanced data applications will drive device revenues," the report said.
