The Los Angeles Times was the top result for many Oscar season Web searches, thanks to a carefully coordinated SEO campaign that was months in the making. Some criticized the Times for abandoning its old-school journalistic roots, but the newspaper's leaders said the effort had been a success. "There's nothing at all sad about telling readers who want content," said L.A. Times SVP-digital Emily Smith.
