Mental, emotional problems affect 20% of NYC preteens

Research by the New York City Health Department found that 1 in 5 of the city's children between ages 6 and 12 are living with mental illness or emotional problems. About 44,000 children have been diagnosed with conditions such as attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder, depression, bipolar disorder, anxiety and other behavioral conditions, the analysis found.
