Report: Deals don't drive as much restaurant traffic

Restaurants relied increasingly on meal deals to drive traffic and sales after the recession hit, but visits involving a deal dropped 3% last year, the first decline since 2008, according to NPD Group. "Considering current consumer sentiment and their continuing frugality, the deals that have historically appealed to restaurant customers need to be re-engineered and the next generation of deals introduced," said NPD analyst Bonnie Riggs.
