Salad bar helps expand healthy options for students

A Washington state school district's push to provide more healthy options for students is paying off, with students at one elementary school adding more fruits, vegetables and whole grains to their trays. The effort was aided by the recent addition of a salad bar, which offers options such as carrots, celery, broccoli, cauliflower, pineapple and oranges. "Our kids are definitely eating more -- and eating healthier," principal Mark Hummel said, adding: "There's definitely a lot less food getting thrown away."
