Study compares angiography, SPECT MPI for diagnosing CAD

A 320-detector-row coronary CT angiography procedure outperforms SPECT myocardial perfusion imaging in diagnosis of heart disease, but MPI helps prevent unneeded catheterization and revascularization, according to findings presented at the American College of Cardiology meeting. Researchers said CCTA's greater diagnostic capability may be linked to its higher sensitivity to coronary occlusions. The tests did not differ in terms of specificity.
