Tappan Zee builders begin pre-construction geotechnical surveys

Tappan Zee Constructors began geotechnical investigations to analyze soil conditions in and around the Hudson River on Monday at the site for the new Tappan Zee Bridge. The testing period will take eight weeks to complete, with data from the tests "to be used to determine the size of piers and supporting foundations." Meanwhile, the public has chosen a design that includes diagonally cut, slender towers for the new Tappan Zee Bridge in New York, with its chamfered-top pylons rising 419 feet above the water.
