Service learning empowers, teaches students

Some Florida high-school students are combining academics with community service projects, such as putting together educational programs on health and violence that are aimed at younger students and tutoring first- and second-graders in reading. Students say that they feel more ownership over their curriculum through the service-learning program because they are able to select their own projects.
