Energy Dept. unveils carbon fiber research center

The Department of Energy on Tuesday opened the Carbon Fiber Technology Facility at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory in Tennessee. The project is part of the Obama administration's Clean Energy Manufacturing Initiative, which seeks to boost U.S. manufacturing innovation. The facility has $35 million in federal funding and aims to draw researchers and automotive-industry firms to develop carbon-based lightweighting technologies.
