Group abandons bid to take over Ind. waste-to-ethanol project

Construction consortium SMC is ending its bid to buy the technology rights and contract for a proposed waste-to-ethanol plant in Schneider, Ind., from Powers Energy of Indiana, citing lack of funding. After conducting a due diligence review, SMC has determined it cannot "generate the financing necessary to advance the project to its satisfaction," an attorney for the consortium wrote in a letter to the Lake County Solid Waste Management District.
