Ideas for academic librarians on becoming good leaders

To be effective leaders, academic librarians must collaborate with other libraries, be tech-savvy and focus on the future, notes Steven Bell, associate university librarian at Temple University in Philadelphia. In this opinion article, Bell also suggests that looking outside the library may be the most important skill for leadership. "Whether it's business, computing, design or some other field, aspiring leaders need to create some space in their keeping up regimen for exploring new territory ...," he concludes.
