Minn. school partners with ASCD to serve the whole child

A school in Minnesota is one of 10 schools selected by ASCD to participate in The Whole Child Initiative, which seeks to foster a healthy, safe and supportive environment in which children can learn. The school, which serves middle- and high-school students, already has made changes in the classroom, including engaging students by tapping into their interests as well as using a $10,000 annual grant to address students' needs. So far, that has installed "hydration stations" where students can fill up their water bottles and a "courage retreat" for seventh-grade students to learn how to support each other.
