Ordinance outlaws fast-casual chains in N.Y. town

The town of Eastchester, N.Y., formulated new rules designed to keep Panera, Cosi and other fast-casual chains from setting up shop in the town, where chains are few and far between and the Dunkin' Donuts and Starbucks cafes also serve lunch. "These restaurants are not really compatible with our goals," said Supervisor Anthony S. Colavita. “Eastchester is long and narrow, and our retail corridor runs rights through town. All the neighborhoods are within 300 feet of a retail business establishment.”
