Providers have until Sept. 23 to comply with new HIPAA regs

New HIPAA rules, which took effect Tuesday, make business associates of health care professionals liable for violations and add some patient control over data disclosures. Providers generally must comply with the new rules by Sept. 23, according to an official at the American Health Information Management Association. Providers in some cases have longer to comply with the measure addressing business associates.
