Oregon school janitors face 50%-plus pay cuts

The Beaverton, Ore., school district issued layoff notices to 50 janitors as it cuts $26 million from its annual budget. While the custodians won't lose their jobs altogether, they'll be shunted to other work and could face steep pay cuts and schedule reductions. One 50-year-old janitor says he expects his salary to fall from $48,000 to $20,000 when the changes are implemented.
