Three-quarters of iPhone revenue comes from in-app purchases

Revenue from in-application purchasing grew from 53% in January 2012 to a record 76% in February, according to a Distimo survey of apps in the iPhone App Store. Of that revenue, 71% was generated from free apps and only 5% from paid apps, with the Asian market seeing in-app purchasing generating as much as 90% of revenue, Sarah Perez writes. Clash of Clans, Candy Crush Saga and Hay Day were the top three apps for revenue production, and the combination of paid-apps using in-app purchasing yielded the most revenue per download on the iPhone platform, Distimo said.
