Institute for genomic health set up in California hospital

El Camino Hospital, a nonprofit facility based in Mountain View, Calif., has established an institute aimed at using genomic data to enhance the practice and delivery of health care. The Genomic Medicine Institute will deploy decision-support technology and Internet-based applications from DNA Direct, as well as initially focus on nine tests that affect areas including oncology and psychiatry. The move is expected to "help bridge the information gap for physicians and patients," an El Camino executive said.
