Friedewald formula may underestimate LDL, researchers say

Researchers at Johns Hopkins Hospital said the Friedewald equation can underestimate low-density lipoprotein cholesterol levels and lead to undertreatment. Their study in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology compared estimates to direct measures of LDL and found the differences between the two were enough to change the treatment regimens of 14.6% of a study group.
